Our heritage
a unique
1897

Origins

1897. Fernand Ginestet founded Ginestet & Co. Our company proudly bears his name, and perpetuates his ambition to promote Bordeaux wines throughout the world.

A true visionary of the profession, and a key player in in the structuring of interprofessional organizations, Fernand Ginestet was already convinced of the importance of forging deep links between viticulture and commerce.

The Ginestet family has always been a part of the prestigious world of Bordeaux Grands Crus, having once owned Châteaux Margaux, Clos Fourtet, Cos d’Estournel…

1978 Jacques Merlaut, entrepreneur

Merlaut family

1978. The Ginestet family passes the torch onto the Merlaut family and joins Group Taillan, founded in 1961. Jacques Merlaut, known for his energy and vision, shakes up the wine business in Bordeaux.

Group Taillan also owns Château Chasse Spleen, Haut Bages Libéral, Ferrière, Gruaud Larose, Citran, Broustet,…

It is within a universe of Grands Crus Classés, essentially from the Médoc, that the Maison maintains and develops its historical links with the most prestigious properties of the Bordeaux region.

The opening up of world markets and the reputation of the great wines of Bordeaux favored the international development of Maison Ginestet, which established itself in Asia in the 1990s (China, Japan).

TODAY

1998. Denis Merlaut takes over from Jacques Merlaut at the head of the Taillan Group. His sense of business, perspective and rigor inspire the Maison Ginestet teams and promote the modernization and development of this “great” Bordeaux house.

Every day, we strive to continue the long family tradition of the House: Arouse the emotion and pleasure of tasting a great wine by linking it to its origins.

On five continents, always with the same philosophy for generations.

This is the art of trading Bordeaux wines according to Maison Ginestet.
